These commissions almost always have a date attached, so put it in the brief first and be honest about how firm it is. Say what you want engraved word for word, including the punctuation, because engraving is not easily undone. If you are sending an object to be incorporated or reworked, mention it up front, since not every maker takes that on and the ones who do will want to talk before quoting. Allow more time than you think, and more again if the piece needs approval from more than one person.
