A project done well: a worked example

A real van centre-console project, and the communication that made it go smoothly.

The Customer's request

The Customer wanted a van centre console. They uploaded example images of other products on the market that they wanted theirs to be like, and explained what features it needed. They added a context photo to help the Maker understand where the console would fit and the colours to match, and set out the specific dimensions they wanted in the brief.

The Maker's response

After talking it through in chat, the Maker created a drawing and a CAD model. This could equally have been done by hand. The point was not only to give themselves a cutting list and work out how to build it, but to have the Customer sign off on exactly what would be made. That way the Customer knew precisely what they would receive and the Maker had fully set expectations.

The Customer's reply

The Customer confirmed it was all correct and asked the Maker to proceed. They also mentioned they would paint the box themselves once it arrived, so the Maker did not need to. Because both sides were proactive in the chat, each knew what to expect.

The final check

Before sending the item, the Maker posted a photo of the finished console in the private chat, giving the Customer a last chance to flag any changes. Throughout the project the Maker kept the Customer updated on progress. Clear communication, an agreed specification and a final check are what make a project go smoothly for everyone.
