Best practice for Customers
How to write a clear project, choose the right Maker, and finish smoothly.
1 min read
You get the best results on Need It Made when a Maker understands exactly what you want before they start. That means a clear project, a Maker whose work fits, and a written specification you both agree to before you pay. These habits are what separate a project that arrives exactly right from one that needs putting right.
Set up your profile
Create an account. It is free, quick and easy, and lets Makers see they are dealing with a real person.
Describe your project fully
Say what you want made, including any materials, finishes, qualities or tolerances. Add photos, sketches, technical drawings or CAD files. Images of similar products, or a photo of where it needs to fit, help a lot. Explain how it will be used.
Choose your Maker carefully
Review the bids and any extra ideas Makers suggest. Check each Maker's profile, skills and ratings before accepting a bid, and look for Makers who have made something similar before.
Agree the specification before you pay
Before paying, agree a clear, written specification with your Maker. Cover critical dimensions, materials, colours, finishes, quantity, delivery timeframe, and any drawings, CAD files or reference images. The more detailed it is, the better protected you are: it is the primary reference point if there is ever an issue.
Finish the project
You have 48 hours from delivery to raise any issue about what you received. Once you are happy, click Project Complete and leave the Maker a review.
Post another
Once your first project is done, post another, and tell your friends and family about Need It Made.
